Artist's Eyes:
Look at the various objects in around you. Now, notice the space around them- not just the things, but the space they occupy, and don't occupy. the "negative space" as artists say.
We have been so enjoying our treks to the ridge. Hopefully we can get a few more hikes in before the snow flies. The students are bonding while exploring nature. They have been practicing tone of voice, peer skills, social skills and expected behavior in this diverse setting. They are noticing the changes in our world as Autumn rolls in and prepares us for winter. This is also a perfect time to practice another Mindful Moment.

It is really important to wait until the person speaking is finished before you begin speaking. It is also important to keep what you are saying to 3 or 4 sentences so you each can have a turn to share. It is great if you can make eye contact and look at the person talking. Try to really listen to what the person is saying instead of thinking about what you want to say. You will develop stronger friendships and you might even learn a thing or two.
Mindful Moment: COMPASSION HUG Stretch your arms out wide on the in breath like you are hugging the whole world. Hold your arms across your shoulders on the outbreath hugging yourself. In order to self regulate and act in expected manner we do need some strategies! I can put some MINDFUL MOMENTS on the blog for you to try when you feel upset, worried, frustrated, annoyed, tired and yes... EVEN the dreaded BORED. Mindful Moment: Soft Rain Recognize what you are feeling Allow it to stay a moment Investigate how it feels See that it is Not personal When we are working with groups of people it is easy to get confused about feelings. We might think someone is scowling at us when really they are thinking about a problem they had with their sister that morning. That is one reason to be a WE at school. We all have to get along in order to have a good day. Teamwork is a requirement at school. You do not have to work with others all the time, but you certainly will some of the time. So learning how to use expected behavior is a cool skill to have. |
