We have been talking about EMPATHY in Room 10. We read the book "Stand in My Shoes" by Bob Sornson. As Bob Sornson states "Empathy is the heart of Love and Logic. The practice of understanding how another person is feeling keeps us from being that angry teacher or parent. Empathy is part of a strong, positive emotional state in which we can treat others with respect while still setting appropriate limits on how others behave around us. Empathy is the foundation of all emotional intelligence." Developing empathy is like learning to ride a bike or learning to read. We all develop at different rates, all we need is PRACTICE. We need to be able to think about the people around us to be good members of society. We need to imagine what it feels like to be in someone else's shoes to build and keep friendships. Empathy takes practice.Notice the faces of the people around you. Change your behavior if the faces look annoyed, upset or unhappy. Practice EMPATHY.
