As we return to school we realize it is a huge adjustment. We have had two months of ME behavior and now we are back in a WE situation. When we are at home and with small groups of people, the impact of ME behavior is quite small. However, once we are in large groups such as the classroom, the ME behavior becomes quite unexpected and even upsetting. The classroom functions best as a WE. When the group plan is followed by everyone, the flow is calm and productive. When a member of the class decides to follow their own plan it can cause major ripples that upset the climate and feeling of community. EMPATHY is the key. The idea that you care about the group and understand that the needs of the group must come before your own desire to finish a favored task, give in to the "I'm bored" cop out, letting the "I WANT" monster out, having classmates wait on you, talking instead of listening, and I am sure you can add many more "ME FIRST" behaviors.

Have you guys ever grown over the summer. Must be all that sunshine!
Thank you to the wonderful families(Boswells,Yips,Fells,Yang/Hou, Mycrofts, and Fergusons) that cared for Shadow over the summer. Shadow came back to school happy and healthy. Room 10 is so so very grateful for the love and kindness you all have shown to our beloved school pet. |
