The concept of a growth mindset was developed by psychologist Carol Dweck. According to her, a mindset is a perception that people hold about themselves. Believing you are "good at math" or " bad with technology" are examples of a mindset. Adults have them too. "I'm a good electrician" or "I'm a bad parent" for example. In a fixed mindset people believe they are what they are, they were born this way or that, they are good or bad at this or that, and these are fixed traits. It can also be a belief that talent alone creates success. That you are either dumb or smart in certain areas. In a growth mindset, people believe their abilities can be developed with time, practice and effort. Praise given for effort over talent can help build resiliency and perseverance in ourselves and our peers. So don't be STUBBORN like Oscar! Be a wonderful, flexible you!
