Today the Grade 5/6's visited to Room 10 to take the bully test. Everyone has been exposed to bullying in some way or another. The important thing is understanding what bullying is, and use empathy to defeat it. We decided to address personal comments first. At school we are in a group setting. This is not a place to make personal comments. Personal comments include: appearance, ability, race, culture, family dynamics, economics, comparisons and status. We decided that the exception would be compliments. We are trying a social experiment to see if we can change our patterns. Sometimes we get sloppy or too comfortable with our language and do not even realize that we are making personal comments. We are going to hold ourselves accountable and try a tally system to recognize when we are making a personal comment and how to replace that behavior.
